Ran a relaxed 4 miles without the Garmin.  Weather wasn't as cold as it has been, but it was dark  Maybe another 4 miles tomorrow, or maybe I'll sleep in.  I haven't decided.  I want to keep my legs fresh and ready but not tight and stagnant.  I don't completely understand this taper stuff.  You rest and heal.  But if I miss a week of running, I feel tight and slow.  Where is the line between rested, healed, and strong -- and tight and slow.  I also don't understand how cutting back on the miles and tapering is hard for people.  I like to run, but I also really like the encouraged sleep-ins.  I just don't feel an irresistible urge to run every day during a taper.  After months of training, a few days off feels wonderful.

My sister-in-law needs some female advice.  She is training for a half marathon and running about 25 miles a week.  She is worried about  athletic amenorrhea.  Her blog is rachael's runs.  I've tried to get her to join this one.  Maybe some of you can help convince her.

Tapering makes me crazy, because I like to eat! Calories in = calories out. So, when I run less I feel like I must eat less. I want to run so that I can eat my ice cream and not feel guilty :) Plus, my body gets so used to the endorphins from the runs that I go into a mini-depression.

Hope things went well today! Can't wait to hear about it. I, unfortunately, don't have much experience/advice with your SIL's problem. Allie is an expert on it all! (including Heimlich)

OK, I have some news. There is no athletic amenorrhea. She is actually pregnant! Great news.
