Left the Garmin at home today.  I just wanted to go out and relax; get the blood running through my sore thighs.  It was hot, muggy, and dark this morning, but it was good to get out since I haven't been out since Saturday's run in St. George.  Speaking of that run in St. George, my knee feels fine.  It hasn't felt loose, sore, or anything out of the ordinary for the last couple of days.  My quads on the other hand have been extremely sore, and they still are, 4 DAYS LATER!  I should have been stretching and working them a little, but I've just been taking it easy.  Today they do feel better but I can still feel the ache, especially when running down hill.  I should have been running more hills but I enjoy just running from my front door.  There aren't any significant hills within 5 miles of my house so I don't run many.  I need to occasionally jump in the care and drive to some.  I hope that run on Saturday will at least help a little on the downhill course in Logan next week.

Good luck at TOU! It's gettin' close.

You are doing TOU AND SGM? Wow...you people inspire me! I'd love to not have any hills w/in 5 miles of my home. When I first started running my sister (QP) told me "there really is no where for you to run around your house, it's all too many hills" You'd think I'd have mastered them by now!

Good luck with those quads. If you have a foam roller I find that always helps tremendously with the soreness!

RAD -- I'm not running SGM. I was down there for the weekend and thought it would be fun to run the scenic part of that course and get some down hill practice. It was fun (and crowded), but I'm definitely not running both.

A foam roller? You mean like a short pool noodle?

Burt -- Thanks for the well wishes. It's almost time to start getting nervous.

way to leave the garmin at home. it's good for you, but very hard to do! nice run.

hope to see you at TOU. when are we supposed to start getting nervous? i have been nervous ever since i registered :)

TOU is a GREAT race and course, it plays with some peoples head to run 'around' the finish, but if you know the course I don't think it does so much.

Yes, a Foam roller like a pool noodle, but bigger and harder :) I got mine at TOSH, but I know you can get them elsewhere. It's like a good massage, but warning: it IS painful! You just roll out the muscle you have soreness in (like on top of the roller) and use your body weight as the pressure.

allie - I get nervous and it really starts to become real when I start to taper.

RAD - You're right about that finish. This is the third time I've ran TOU. The first time was my first marathon and I hadn't trained very well. I was really hurting and I wondered if it would ever end. Running a big circle around the finish area was torture. The second time it wasn't so bad.

the good thing about the endless winding around the side streets is that spectators can run from block to block and cheer you on multiple times. i usually see my family at 23.5, again at 25, and again at the finish line. very energizing. they stay in the same general area but just keep crossing the street. kind of funny.

It is never too late to stretch!

Hmmm....maybe if I had family dedicated enough to chase me from block to block...
